Description

TOMB OF ADAM KHAN (MEHRAULI) - Lying on the wall of Lal Kot and rising from a terrace enclosed by an octagonal wall provided with low towers at the corners, this tomb consists of a domed octagonal chamber in the Lodi style, with a verandah on each side pierced by three openings. It is popularly known as bhul-bhulaiyan (labyrinth). Adham Khan, son of Mahem Anga, a wet nurse of emperor Akbar, was a general in Akbar's army. In A.D. 1562, he killed Ataga Khan, husband of another wet nurse Jiji Anga, whereupon he was thrown down from the roof by the order of the emperor. He and his mother, both are buried in this tomb built by Akbar.

Adam Khan's tomb located in Mehrauli was built by Mohd. Jalaluddin Akbar in 1561 A.D.

Adam Khan’s Tomb lies behind the Qutub Complex and falls within the Lal Kot. Here lies the foster brother of Akbar along with his mother, the wet nurse of Akbar, Maham Anga. He was thrown from Red Fort (Agra) by Akbar as he killed Ataga Khan, husband of Ji Ji Anga, Akbar’s another wet nurse.
